- Stop using that outlet or circuit. Unplug what you safely can reach.
- Switch off the breaker for it — only if you can do that safely and easily.
- Don't open the panel cover. Don't pull apart outlets or switches. Don't touch a panel that's hot, wet, buzzing, or burnt.

What counts as an electrical emergency?
Anything with heat, fire, or shock risk: a burning smell, smoke, sparks, burn marks or melting at an outlet or panel, a hot or buzzing panel, or getting shocked by a switch, appliance, or faucet. Losing all your power when it isn't a power company outage counts too — especially if someone at home needs medical equipment that plugs in.
What should I do right now if I smell burning?
If there are flames or smoke, get everyone out and call 911 first — don't go looking for it. If you smell burning but see no fire, stop using that outlet, and switch off its breaker only if you can do that safely and easily. Don't open the panel cover, don't take outlets apart, and don't keep using it. Then call a licensed electrician.
Should I flip the main breaker off?
If you can reach the panel safely and something is actively wrong, shutting off that breaker — or the main — is a fair step. But never touch a panel that's hot, wet, buzzing, sparking, or burnt, and never take the cover off. If anything about it feels unsafe, leave it alone and call us.
My power is out — is that an emergency or just an outage?
Check if your neighbors have power. If the whole street is dark, it's a power company outage and they handle it. If only your house is out — or only part of it — the problem is probably yours, and that's worth a call.
A breaker keeps tripping. Can I just keep resetting it?
Resetting it once is fine. Resetting it over and over is not. The breaker is doing its job — telling you the circuit has too much on it, or something's wrong. If it keeps tripping, the problem is still there. And never put in a bigger breaker to stop the tripping. That takes away the protection the wire depends on.
How fast can you get here?
It depends on the time of day and what's already booked — we won't promise you a number we can't keep. What we will do is answer honestly when you call and put real safety problems first. If we can't get there fast enough for a true emergency, we'll say so straight, so you can act.
Do you charge more for emergency work?
You'll always know the price before any work starts — we quote it upfront and flat, and you approve it first. No surprise bills, and we don't use an emergency against you.
Can't I just fix a burnt outlet myself?
Please don't. A burnt outlet is a sign, not the problem — the heat behind it usually comes from a connection inside the wall, so swapping the outlet leaves the real problem there. It's also live power, which is how people get hurt. Hand this one to a licensed electrician.
