Round Rock Homes

Tell us your street and we can usually guess your panel.

Round Rock isn't one kind of house, and it isn't one kind of panel. After enough driveways in this town, the map is pretty clear. Here's what we actually find, and where.

West side, closest to I-35 — the oldest homes This is where we find a lot of Federal Pacific (FPE). These are the original Round Rock homes, built in the '70s and '80s.

FPE panels have a known history of breakers that may not trip when they should — the one job a breaker has. They're still sitting in plenty of these houses, quietly, because nothing has gone wrong yet.

You can check yours without touching anything. Read the brand off the panel door. Don't open the cover. If it says Federal Pacific or Stab-Lok, have a licensed electrician look at it.
East side, older communities — GE panels Out here it's mostly GE panels, and they're aging out. Two things are happening at once.

They're getting old — breakers get less reliable with age, and a breaker that's slow to trip isn't protecting anything. And they were never sized for how we live now. That panel was picked for a house that used a fraction of today's power.

Nothing has to be broken for this to be worth a look.
East side, newer communities — Square D QO & Eaton CH Good news first: these are high-end panels. If you've got a Square D QO or an Eaton CH, you have a quality panel, and we'll tell you so instead of trying to sell you a new one.

What we get called for out here usually isn't the panel failing — it's running out of room. You go to add an EV charger, a hot tub, or a shop out back, and there's no space left.

We're Eaton Certified, so we're trained on these panels by the company that builds them.
West side, off Sam Bass It's a mix out here. We see a lot of GE, and some Eaton CH as well.

Here's the part people get wrong: how a house looks today tells you nothing about when its panel went in. Plenty of these homes were built back when GE was the leading brand — so a home that's in great shape can still have a panel from another era. The house isn't the problem. The calendar is.

Which one you have changes the whole conversation. An Eaton CH is a quality panel with room to talk about. An aging GE is the same two issues as the east side: age, and a panel sized for a smaller life than you're living now.

Same answer either way: find out what you actually have before you need to know.

Questions

Round Rock, answered straight

Are you actually based in Round Rock?

Yes. Our shop is on Glen Cove in Round Rock, 78681 — this is our home base, not a service area we drive out to. It's also why being voted Best of Round Rock matters so much to us. Those votes came from our own neighbors.

How fast can you get to my house in Round Rock?

Round Rock is where we're based, so it's usually the quickest part of our service area to reach. That said, it still depends on the day and what's already booked — we won't promise a number we can't keep. Call and we'll give you a straight answer.

Do you pull permits for work in Round Rock?

Yes. Panel replacements, new circuits, and most bigger work need a permit and an inspection in Round Rock. We handle the permit and set up the inspection as part of the job.

How do I know if my panel is a problem?

Start by reading the brand name off the panel door — don't open the cover. Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Pushmatic, and Challenger all have a known history of breakers that may not trip when they should. Beyond the brand, the signs are breakers that keep tripping, a panel that's warm or buzzing, or a panel that's full with no room left.

Do you work on newer homes too?

Yes — new and old. A newer home can still run out of room in the panel when you add an EV charger, and it may not have whole-home surge protection. New doesn't mean finished.

What does it cost to have you come out?

The consult is $119. That covers a licensed electrician checking your whole system and giving you a straight answer plus a flat price. If you move forward with same-day approved work, the $119 comes off the job.
