Why do my lights flicker when the AC turns on?
A big motor pulls hard for a second when it kicks on, so a quick dip can be normal. But if the dip is strong, keeps happening, or is getting worse, it usually means the power coming in isn't steady — often a loose neutral or a loose connection. That's worth checking, not living with.
Can you install a ceiling fan or fixture where there isn't one?
Usually yes. It depends on what's above the ceiling and whether there's power nearby. Fans need a box built to hold something that moves and shakes — a regular light box isn't made for that, and it's a mistake we find all the time.
What's involved in adding recessed lighting?
It mostly comes down to what's above the ceiling. An attic makes it easy. A second floor or a finished ceiling means more work to run the wire. Layout matters too — where the lights go, how wide they spread, and whether they dim all change how a room feels. We'll walk the room with you first.
Will switching to LED save me money?
Yes, on what your lights cost to run — LEDs use a small fraction of the power of old-style bulbs and last much longer, so you change bulbs far less. But be realistic: lights are only a small part of most power bills. It's a real saving, not a game changer. The bigger wins are better light and not buying bulbs all the time.
Why do my LED lights flicker or buzz on a dimmer?
Almost always because the dimmer and the bulbs don't match. A lot of older dimmers were made for old-style bulbs and don't work well with LEDs. The fix is usually a dimmer made for LEDs, paired to your bulbs — nothing is broken.
Do I need a permit for lighting work?
Swapping a light usually doesn't. New wiring, new circuits, or bigger remodel work usually does. We'll tell you which one your project is before we start, and we handle the permit when it's needed.
Can you help with outdoor and landscape lighting?
Yes. Outdoor lights need parts made for weather, connections sealed against water, and GFCI protection — it's not just indoor lights moved outside. Done right, it lasts. Done wrong, you're calling someone back in a year.
How much does lighting work cost?
It varies a lot — swapping one light and lighting a whole room aren't close to the same job. What changes the price is how easy it is to get to, the wiring, how many lights, and whether they dim. We give you the price upfront and flat, so you approve the number before we start.
